New Themes and Custom Themes!

November 12th, 2007

There are a ton of new themes for everyone and Pro users can now create their own custom themes!

Pownce started with four themes and we intended to add more at some point. Then we got a little more ambitious and rewrote how a bunch of the theme stuff works to make it easier to add themes and to make customized ones all on your own. So, with the much-improved system, there are twelve themes for everyone — from a super simple one to zebra stripes!

For Pro users (heck it’s only $20 per year to upgrade) you get the ability to upload your own background image, select a header color and a note color, and choose a specific link color too. I’m really curious to see what creative stuff people come up with using the custom theme system.

To change your theme, login to your account, click Settings, then Themes. If you’re a Pro user, you’ll be able to click on “Custom Theme” to build your own.

Since these themes are quite new, please let us know on Satisfaction if you find any bugs and we’ll try to iron them out as quickly as we can.

Footnote: I know a few people have been asking for full CSS control for editing themes. I’m really concerned about the user interface devolving into a MySpace kind of hodgepodge mess if we did that. It’s really important to me that the UI stays relatively consistent across everyones’ profiles — the navigation stays in the same places, the dimensions remain the same, etc.
